Founders

The need for collaborative approach to rainforest conservation arose from, 60 years of combined experience. Practical challenges in conservation limits resilience and efficiency, TRP was formed to bridge this gap. 

 

Charith Senanayake

Building upon knowledge gained from 15 years as CEO of Rainforest Rescue International-Sri Lanka. He has designed conservation approaches that marry sustainable supply chains to encourage and reward small farmer based ecosystem restoration. Charith has led the formation of the singharaja Biodiversity corridor which aims to create forest corridors within farmer lands that support local ecosystem resilience.Charith has won international acclaim for his project designs the most recent  being at EXPO Milano 2015.

Charith continues to lead The Rainforest Project as the CEO.

 

Leif Cocks

Leif is the founder of The Orangutan Project and has been the President since its inception. He has worked hands on with and for orangutans for more than 25 years including the most successful breeding colony of orangutans in the world, orangutan rescues and the successful reintroduction of numerous orangutans included the first two ever successful zoo-born reintroductions. Leif has current positions as the President of Wildlife Asia, President of the International Elephant Project, President of the International Tiger Project, Conservation Fund Manager of the Silvery Gibbon Project. Leif continues to support The Rainforest Project as a founding member in an advisory capacity.
